Kit eases development of Bluetooth-enabled
smart phone docks
Microchip Technology announced the new PIC32 Bluetooth Audio
Development Kit. The kit enables custom application development
on the PIC32 microcontrollers (MCUs) for Bluetooth and USB
digital audio solutions. The PIC32 Bluetooth Audio Development
Kit that ships with audio streaming demo code delivers up to
24-bit, 192-kHz audio and has been tested with over 100 different
Bluetooth audio enabled devices, spanning 18 different manufacturers. The Bluetooth Hardware module and the Bluetooth
A2DP audio software have been Bluetooth.org certified, saving
the developer significant certification costs. The modular design
allows developers to swap out the included daughter boards (one
for Audio and one for Bluetooth), to create their own custom versions with their preferred audio and wireless solution. The kit also
supports USB Host and Device connectivity, Apple device authentication module interface, a two-inch color LCD, five general-purpose
button switches, five LEDs and a Plug-In-Module interface for
PIC32 microcontroller upgrades.

ARM board is configurable, production-ready
Direct Insight announced a flexible, production-quality ARM board,
which is configurable by changing a tiny (68 mm x 26 mm) processor
module — from ARM9 to quad core ARM Cortex-A9, thus offering a
production solution for Linux, Windows CE and Android-based products.
The TRITON-TXFB is fully production-ready, with industrial temperature
range support and protected I/O. It is intended for low and medium
volume use in end-user products. Projects which can use an off-the-shelf board are said to gain an advantage in cost and time-to-market
compared with the creation of a custom baseboard. TRITON-TXFB can
be used with any of the current generation of pin-compatible 3.3v I/O
TRITON-TX modules, from a TRITON-TX28S based on a Freescale
i.MX283, to a TRITON-TX48 based on the TI AM335x processor as
used in the popular Beaglebone community board, to the TRITON-
TX6Q with quad ARM Cortex-A9 based i.MX6 from Freescale. In each
case, the combination of baseboard and module forms a complete production-ready solution, according to the company. The range of available interfaces includes Ethernet, USB Host and OTG, SD Card and 2x
RS-232.
